Matilda Calder Thurston was a Protestant missionary in China and the founder and first president of Ginling College, the first Christian women's college in China. Ginling College was founded in 1915; registered with Chinese Ministry of Education in 1930; it moved to Szechuan cooperating with West China Union University in Chengtu during the war; and returned to own campus in 1946.
